Report from a Workshop on Rape and the SAPS

On 16 May 2011 the President assented to the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) Act. Once the Act starts being implemented it will transform the Independent Complaints Directorate (ICD) into the IPID. It will be compulsory for the SAPS to report all rapes by police officers and all rapes occurring in police cells to the IPID. The IPID must investigate these reports.

Forensic nurses vital to providing proper care for rape survivors

With nursing in the spotlight following last week’s national summit convened by the Department of Health and DENOSA’s upcoming conference this week, organizations forming part of the Shukumisa campaign call on the Department, nursing bodies and unions to ensure forensic nursing is placed high on the list of priorities.

    The Shukumisa Campaign was created in 2008 and aims to stir and shake up public and political will to develop and implement policies related to sexual offences

    • All women are free to move around as they please, dressed as they please
